A traditional villa set in a Japanese garden featuring a fresh water spring
OVERVIEW
Relax with some freshly brewed green tea and take in the beautiful view of the Shimeisho Spring Garden (湧水庭園 四明荘). Guests are served green tea and can experience sitting in this traditional style villa built over a large pond of rich local spring water.
Set in the middle of Shimabara's "City of Swimming Carp", it's said that approx. 1,000 tonnes of fresh spring water wells up from beneath the ground here every day. You can even see where the water is welling up from the ground!
The spring water is so clear that, in some photos, the carp appear to be floating on the surface or even flying.
This is one of Shimabara’s most peaceful spots, and is a perfect place to take a rest before you continue sightseeing.
